Yes! I cheated on Stitch Fix! I know! I know! But I kept seeing all of these great Trunk Club reviews from fellow fashion bloggers that I decided I had to give it a try.
What is Trunk Club?
I like that your stylist is fixed. This way they get to know you better and better with each trunk and it truly becomes a personalized service. Being an introvert, I do not like the part where they call you to talk on the phone about your preferences and needs. The whole reason why I love this whole clothing in a box shipped to your door thing is because I don’t have to see or talk to anyone. If I wanted to talk to someone about clothes then I’d go to the mall and I avoid the mall at all costs. I boycotted the phone call bit and was able to get a trunk just by conversing via email.
So, the preliminary stage was going great! My stylist Casey got an idea about my style and needs and she sent me a preview of my trunk. To my surprise, I felt like she “got” me on the first try. I loved most of the pieces she picked out. I eliminated a few based on price and a few others based on style.
My trunk was sent and I immediately became an addict checking my tracking number constantly. Once it arrived, Casey sent me an email saying she can’t wait to hear my feedback and to contact her with any questions.
After that, SILENCE. I emailed Casey about a few pieces asking about fit and such and she never responded. I sent feedback about my trunk via the Trunk Club app and still no response from her. I wondered if maybe she went on vacation because of the Easter holiday, but it has been over a week since I first emailed her about my trunk after I received it and still nothing. Did I do something wrong? I’m a little confused and a bit weirded out. I feel like that girl who went on a few dates with a guy and thought things were going great until one day he stops calling and she has no idea why. Anyway, I will quit blabbering away because this is a looooooong post with 15 items to show so…
Without further ado, here is my first trunk!
Halogen – Three Quarter Sleeve Sweater
I instantly loved this piece from the minute I saw it in my trunk preview. In person, it is even better! The material is super soft and lightweight – perfect for Spring! The is a classic “Jenn” top with a funky print yet a very casual vibe. This was an easy decision.
BLANKNYC – ‘Hotel’ Distressed Skinny Jeans Blue
I usually don’t like holes in my jeans. However, after trying these on I was sold. These jeans are soft, form fitting, forgiving, and comfortable. I love the wash and they look great rolled up as capris.
SARTO by Franco Sarto – ‘Rosen’ Bootie
The first thought that came to mind when I pulled these out were that these booties would look great on my Mom! This style of bootie is not my jam. They are too conservative for me. On the plus side, these shoes are extremely comfortable! However, they just aren’t me.
Pleione – Pleat Back Woven Print Top
This is such a cute top! I love the colors and the pattern is something I’d definitely go for! I can see pairing this top with jean shorts and flat sandals. Unfortunately, it was too big 🙁
Vince Camuto – Side Zip Pants
Nope, nope, nope. My sweet, sweet Granny would love these! I don’t play golf nor am I member of a country club. I’m also primarily a stay at home mom. These get a hell no from me.
Halogen – Three Quarter Sleeve Cardigan
I love everything about this cardigan! I also requested a button up cardigan for this trunk. The color is pretty and the material is so soft and comfortable. sigh It’s too short for my torso 🙁
I immediately thought no to these flats until I tried them on. They are the most comfortable flats I’ve ever tried on. I also fell in love with the cute floral print and the tie string detail. Here’s where the but comes in. They are $100. I have never, nor will I ever, spend $100 on a pair of flats. I’ll spend $100+ on boots for sure, but flats no.
Paige Denim – ‘Verdugo’ Ankle Skinny Jeans Tristan
These are the most beautful pair of jeans I have had the privilege to try on in my entire life. I am not exaggerating. These jeans are sent from God. They are also $189. Yes. You read that right. I’m not opposed to spending some $$ on a nice pair of jeans because Lord knows you get what you pay for. However, I couldn’t justify the almost $200 price tag. I’m too frugal for that. I also mentioned to my stylist that I preferred every piece to be under $100 and I rejected all the pieces $100+ in my trunk preview. I don’t think she got the message. Hopefully she will now.
Caslon – Embroidered Cotton & Modal Tank
Loved this top! Very boho chic! Perfect for everyday wear. sigh Too big.
NYDJ – ‘Clarissa” Stretch High Rose Ankle Skinny Jeans Heyburn
These fit nicely, but again $124!? I just won’t spend that much. Where’s my damn trust fund?
KUT from the Kloth – ‘Diana’ Stretch Skinny Jeans Valid
I just liked these jeans. Since I’m on a budget I had to love, not like, in order to keep a piece.
TOMS – ‘Palmera’ Geo Print Espadrille Slip-On
I’m a Toms girl! When I first pulled the Toms box out of the trunk I was giddy! Then I pulled these out and was immediately disappointed. Then I put them on and loved them! Whew! What a bipolar shoe rollercoaster ride! For some reason, I am a whole shoe size smaller than normal in Toms shoes so these guys were way too big.
Halogen – Pleat V-Neck Shell
I really loved this piece. It’s casual but has the potential to be dressed up. As you all know, I’m a sucker for a cute pattern so I was instantly excited about trying this top on. Again, too big 🙁
Hinge – Flutter Hem Cap Sleeve Top
This top was in my trunk preview. I was most excited about receiving this piece! The flutter hem style is something new for me and I love the pattern. This is another one that’s just too big.
Last, but definitely not least…
Halogen – Scoop Neck Woven Tank
Yes, yes, yes! I’m not a huge navy fan, but this top just works with the floral pattern and the navy background. I don’t own many stylish tank tops, most of my tanks are layering pieces, so this will make a nice addition to my closet.
Whew! You made it! What do you all think?
To recap, here’s what I ended up keeping from Trunk #1:
Overall, I enjoyed my trunk and felt like my stylist Casey understood my style right off the bat. Unfortunately, her lack of communication towards the end of the whole process is a little off putting and makes me either want to just stick with Stitch Fix or maybe try another stylist. Do you think I’m over reacting? Should I give her another chance? The lack of communication at the end is killing me!
