This week I am grateful for
Michael, Amelia, and I (as well as the hounds Emma & Rupert who shamelessly begged for food) sat down for a family dinner last night. I realized then that this was the first proper family dinner at home since Amelia’s arrival almost a year ago. We’ve eaten together, the three of us, before, but not in the traditional sense where we sit at the kitchen table set with water glasses, utensils, and napkins. Usually we end up eating while sitting on the couch watching John Oliver or American Dad or something of the sort.
It was really nice having a proper family dinner with all screens off and nothing other than each other’s company. This is a ritual that I think it super important, especially with kids. It promotes healthy eating because it eliminates eating “on the go” which facilitates fast food and unhealthy eating habits. Plus it was a great bonding experience for us as a family.
So, now I have a new goal – to sit down for a proper family dinner at least 5 nights a week.
